I live in a part of the country that has a reputation for being ¨colder¨. Cold here in Colombia is relative. It means that it is not 75 degrees and sunny all year round.
I was here in Jericó exactly two years ago, and I remember complaining that it was too cold.
The other day, I complained it was too hot and unseasonably dry. That is until this morning. For the past few days, the sky has been wanting to rain.
I often hear the far-off sounds of thunder. The cows lying down — they, too, were expecting rain.
For those of you who don’t know, those of us who grew up near or in Appalachia, you can call it superstition or an old wives’ tale.
It goes like this:
¨if all the cows are lying down, a storm is brewing¨
Two days ago, I saw them all lying down, and it finally happened.
It is still drizzling outside. I am hoping the rains continue for the next few days. I have never had to water my garden in Colombia, which is notoriously known for being wet and lush due to our tropical climate.
Yet the other day, my plants were so dry that I was out with the hose trying to bring them back to life. I expect all my little seeds to start popping up after this nice rainfall.
However, as I pop my head out my window, I hear the gentle sounds of rain falling off the leaves. The birds finally waking up from their long night. The clouds are still here, and there is no sign of the sun.
It's a nice relief after such a hot summer. I will embrace the slight chill as I sit and plan my day.
XOXO
